Rene Jansen
Rene came to New Zealand at the age of 21 form the Netherlands
He is a hands-on multidisciplinary artist with an extensive background in textiles, furniture design and sculpture.
His sculptural work and some of his furniture designs are mostly abstract in nature and are a balancing act of softness and tension, tranquility and movement.
His choice of medium is deliberate and the execution is precise.
Mostly there is an overriding desire to create order out of chaos drawing inspiration from far and wide.
Rene spent three years at the Corbans art centre and spend most of his life as an independent producer of furniture and works of art.
Movements and disciplines that influence his work can be found in Bauhaus, Japanese architecture and Buddhist mandalas amongst other interests.
While producing furniture and sculptures that incorporate Aluminium can be categorised as unforgiving Rene manages to create works that are of a character that belie an appreciation for balance and a resolve for meditative stillness.
I his latest Aero furniture range he uses polished alloy and stained oak to create functional furniture pieces that relate to his sculptural works with a subtle hint to the world of aeronautics.
